The Importance of Living in the Spectacular Now

The Importance of Living in the Spectacular Now I want to start this post by asking you to reflect on a couple questions: how many times this past year did you say to yourself “when Covid-19 is over, I will finally be able to do this”. For me, I must have said this sentence hundreds if not thousands of times but let’s take a step back. How many times have you said, prior to the pandemic, “when this event is over, I will finally be able to do this”.  Whether this event is homework, focusing on your physical health, meeting with friends, traveling, or whatever it may be, we need to stop allowing ourselves to miss out on the spectacular moments life encompasses. Granted, there are times that you need to buckle down but we must learn to set boundaries with these externalities or...

How To Stop Basing Your Values In Other’s Opinions

How To Stop Basing Your Values In Other’s Opinions Peer and societal pressures are real... Now, I’m not referencing experiences such as your grandma trying to pawn off some of her chocolate chip cookies to you, I’m referencing ways you alter your personality, mediums of expression and overall beliefs of the world around you to please those in your inner circle. We are all unique individuals. Why should we be forced to morph with the pack to feel more stable when we are all destined to push the boundaries and take risks? I can’t say I have always strayed away from following others. In high school, I found I was constantly altering the words that came out of my mouth or the way I dressed because I was afraid that others would think. This then transformed to me loosing sight of who ...

Why I Am So Grateful To Have A Job

"My love for working didn’t quite start until I began hosting and serving at a five star resort in my hometown" How it all Started... It all started when I was working at a tee-shirt shop the summer before my junior year of high school. I was so excited to get to work every morning and open the store to start folding! What fun right? For me, it was incredible. Being responsible for a BUILDING that I could call MY own was the most responsibility I had ever been given. I took pride in my salesmanship, relationship with customers and responsibility to make the store as welcoming as possible. My love for working didn’t quite start until I began hosting and serving at a five star resort in my hometown. I was the youngest employee hired in one of th...

Empowerment Series: Grace Burford

Empowerment Series: Grace Burford   Grace Burford is one of the most motivated individuals I know. Not only did she graduate from one of the top film schools in the nation, Loyola Marymount University, in three years AND at the top of her class, but she was able to take part in so many incredible internships, participate in greek life and create meaningful friendships along the way. Grace is extremely driven and goal oriented. These are just a few of the many attributes I have admired about her for all my life.   When I asked her how she was able to accomplish so much in just three years of college, she said that she was able to surround herself with hardworking individuals who add to her life, rather than subtract from it. Additionally, having peop...

Empowerment Series: Jeannie Burford

Jeannie Burford I am so lucky to be able to say that Jeannie Burford is my mom. My whole life she has been my biggest cheerleader. She is someone that I can, without a doubt, look to in order to feel like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Not only is she a Senior Financial Advisor in her office, but she is one of the founding members of Boys Team Charity in Santa Barbara.  On top of all of this, she is ALWAYS there for any one of my siblings or I, avidly bikes, hikes, walks, enjoys traveling, making flower arrangements, baking, and offers advice to graduating college students who are interested in going into financial careers. She is truly the most inspiring person I know. My whole life I witnessed my mom waking up at 5am....

Why I Am My Own Superhero

How I Became My Own Superhero I wish I could say that I have always loved to run, that I have always loved my figure, and that I have always felt empowered. Back in the socially awkward times known as junior high, I dreaded the monthly mile. I always felt so uncomfortable to be running alongside the smelly  people in my class who never failed to watch if my sweat stains would show. In those moments, I felt far from empowered. Now, I find myself living for the sweat that I now identify as marks of endurance that make up my superhero uniform. I can honestly say that I feel more confident than I ever have.  It all started a couple years ago when my family was displaced from our house due to a local natural disaster. In t...
